Lakebay Marina Project

The Lakebay Marina is located 10 miles west of Tacoma, Wa. The heart of the marina is the historic pier and building, long used as a community gathering place. The 18-acre property also includes 600 feet of shoreline, a boat ramp, tidelands, and forest. Preservation of the site is critical because of its deserved reputation as a destination for boaters, the beautiful natural surroundings that give it a rustic charm, and its close proximity to Penrose Point State Park.

Our Vision

We envision new docks, utilities, and modern infrastructure, while seeking to preserve the site’s historic character. We hope to see families strolling the pier, boaters visiting for a rendezvous, and the building serving once more as a treasured community gathering spot.

Now the work really begins!

On the final day of 2021, the purchase and acquisition of Lakebay became official! A lot of work lies ahead to plan the buildout of this historic facility, to gather community input on what they want to see, and to figure out how future improvements should be phased and funded. Lakebay was made possible in large part through the gritty, painstaking, and never-say-die work of RBAW’s 501(c)3 Marine Parks Conservancy, and future donations are needed to support the work of the Conservancy in taking on future challenges!

The South Sound is buzzing with the news!

Please read what RBAW President Bob Wise had to say with regards to the journey to acquire Lakebay and the generational benefits of keeping this facility in public hands:
